Héctor López is a father of eight who, after working for 30 years at a textile company in Medellín, retired when the company shut down during the pandemic. With all of his children now grown and educated, he found himself facing a single question: Now what?
A few years earlier, driven by the passion and love two of his daughters had for coffee and the town of Urrao—where they had worked with the Coffee Federation—the family had purchased a small farm in the area. That farm soon became his new possibility.
With the support of his wife and children, Héctor decided to move to the countryside. Today, years later, he’s beginning to see the fruits of that choice. He has made the farm his home: he prints schoolwork for the neighbors, has the best internet connection in the area, and has become an active part of the local community.
For us, it’s an honor to work alongside someone who has chosen to invest in the future of rural life—leaving behind not just a legacy for his eight children, but for an entire community that now works alongside him.
